Adam, if you knew where Osama was in '02, you should have said something to someone. In fact, you still should tell someone. Adam, I demand that you go to the nearest federal bureau and inform the government as to bin Ladin's whereabouts four years ago. You obviously have information that our intellegence agencies are in desperate need of!

We actually should have gotten him when we knew where he was and when we knew he was a threat, and that is when he was in the Sudan in the mid 90's. Dubbya, however, was not president then, so I guess it's a little inconvienient for your narrative.

nearscape: You bastard! Where'd you get one!

this post brought to you by nintendo wii! :)

Posted by: adam Posted on: Saturday December 30 2006 12:51pm
@CrowScape

Yeah, yeah, yeah...But I still say we should have gotten him in 92....Just like we should have gotten Osama in 02. Of course, why should I have expected either Bush to get anything right. Like father, like son I guess, huh?

Saw Eragon today. Very mediocre, with two-dimensional characters and a roughly put together, simplistic plot.

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Tuesday December 26 2006 1:52pm
Yeah...I was working on a database driven version of the site but that kinda got shelved when the film festival / Korporate Media season hit. Anyways, the plan is to have a LAN party to celebrate Dave's birthday in January. Details forthcoming, but it might be at the Kump Estates.

Posted by: eygx0r Posted on: Monday December 25 2006 7:36pm
Happy Decemberween, y0s.

Is there going to be a cold-time LAN party? I know there was talk of one not too long ago, but I never heard whether or not it actually happened. Also, the "next event" link at the top of this page is useless. USELESS!!

Posted by: CrowScape Posted on: Saturday December 23 2006 10:56pm
Yes, but I'm still confused about why the Christians use the symbol of the Free French. And I'm also unsure about when the entertainment was supposed to ensue. Was that what happened after the end credits, as I left when they started to roll?

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Saturday December 23 2006 3:42pm
What they actually do is set up (or return to, really) a Christian Theocracy in Britain in response to the spread of Islamic Theocracy. And eventually, the people say "fuck this", as they always do. Entertainment ensues.

Posted by: CrowScape Posted on: Friday December 22 2006 10:59pm
Isn't "V for Vendetta" the movie where the Free French are the Nazis in Britain or something? From the previews the film seemed increadibly confused.

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Thursday December 21 2006 7:44pm
I like the original, and I actually think the cover tune is pretty cool. Not quite sure about the message of the video though. What, money is bad? No doubt those animations were produced using only organic hemp and butterflies.

Posted by: CJOS Posted on: Thursday December 21 2006 4:43pm
They had that video playing on TV at the San Diego Comic-Con in the exhibition hall. I thought that it was a promo for a new DVD or TV show. That or I thought it was somebody's take on "V for Vendetta" since it's got a few similarities.

Posted by: adam Posted on: Thursday December 21 2006 10:37am

Anyone here seen the video for Disturbed's cover of "Land of Confusion"? I just saw it on MTV2 while flipping and it's cool.

Dave's TV almost had a violent Wiiaction to a flying Wiimote. Sure enough, in less than 24 hours after Dave set up the Wii, the Wiimote slipped from my hand while I was throwing a blistering fastball straight at his wonderful TV. Fortunately, I was wearing the wrist strap and, miracle of miracle, it did not break!

This has taught me something, though. I am going to get a Wii, and I will play it on a fabulously expensive widescreen monitor. However, I will also build a mythbusters-style blast screen to protect said monitor.

I'm dead serious.

Okay, maybe my blast screen will look a little better, but still, there will be two layers of Lexan between me and the TV.

Posted by: adam Posted on: Monday December 18 2006 3:54am

I really want a Wii... Must save cash to move... But so tempting... (assuming you can find one)

B_W and Jon made heavy sacrifices in warmth last night but they came back with a Wii!

And it sure is neato! But you all already knew that. Now if only they could crank them out faster so we can all join in the phun!

Posted by: Dream BBQ Child Posted on: Sunday December 17 2006 7:54am
Well, at least it didn't take long to come up short.

Oh well.

Be vewy vewy quiet. I'm hunting Wii.

huhhuhuhuhuhuh

Should I prove successful, keep your distance. What with the Flying Wiimotes and all.

Although I must ask, is it at all odd that one of the games I'm most looking forward to playing is "ToeJam and Earl" from the virtual console? Then again if you hit up-down-left-right I'm pretty sure that the game admitted that ToeJam, Big Earl have a rep for Jammin'. At least that's what I thought it said. Wav files didn't come across to well on the consoles back in the day.

Peter, I like how you described those students as 'behaving wildly'. If I was typing a paper, or editing, or something, with the enthusiasm I put into a good game of netrek (http://www.netrek.org/), that would be quite the piece at the end! I'm gonna try that, go into a public place, and just start slamming away on a video while swearing and yelling.

That's how you get things DONE.

David

p.s. FIRE THE PHASER GUNS!!!

Nearscape,
It looks like the dual-disc DVD release of Ghostbusters I and II (which had 2 episodes of the famed JMS-scribed "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon) was lucrative enough that they decided to sell the animated series on DVD.
On February 27, 2007, "The Real Ghostbusters" Volume 1 will be released on DVD. Somewhere JMS is smiling proudly.

Posted by: CJOS Posted on: Tuesday December 12 2006 12:24pm
I'm pretty sure that an addiction to Counter-Strike & Age of Empires II was the primary reason for my 2nd roommate freshman year not coming back to Marquette. It can get bad.

Posted by: adam Posted on: Tuesday December 12 2006 3:51am
@Peter

they were all playing Warcraft.

LOL! That sounds like my brother... Spends more time on WoW than he does working on his papers.

I write a paper in high school where I compared Romeo to Lisure Suit Larry (After all, he's introduced as a playa).

Here's a little story from my day that I thought you would enjoy.

Here at MU, the students are in the midst of finals week (for many students the most stressful time of the semester). I was coming back from lunch this afternoon when I noticed three of my students typing madly at their laptops in the Biology lobby. The three were all cursing at each other and shouting, "There's no way I'll be able to finish this in time! I can't believe you did this to me! I'm in so much trouble" and "There's no way I'm going to get through this alive". Having gone through several finals weeks myself, I am accustomed to seeing students stressed out and behaving wildly. Given that they were my students and the fact that they have a 10 page group essay due on Thursday in addition to their final exam, I figured I would help them out. I casually asked them, "What part of the essay is giving you problems?". All at once, the three students stopped typing, looked up from their laptops, and sheepishly smiled. I walked around the table to see what they had been hiding from my view....they were all playing Warcraft. (And after laughing it off I asked them how their essays were coming. That's when they got really quiet).

I know some of you may not care for Firefly/Serenity and I apologize to those people for abusing the board to further promote the show, but this deserves recognition. For those of you who liked or loved Firefly/Serenity, here is one more excuse why the actors of Firefly/Serenity deserve the title of "BDH - BIG D#MN HEROES".

For those of you who haven't been keeping up to date with the fandom of Firefly/Serenity, last year, a company called Booster Events started an annual Firefly/Serenity convention called "Flanvention" in Southern California. The second Flanvention was supposed to take place this weekend. On November 28th of this year, the event organizers said that the convention was in trouble and may not occur. Then they released a press release on December 1st saying that all financial difficulties were taken care of and the show would go on as planned. Flashforward to the past Thursday (less than 24 hours before the convention was scheduled to begin), and Booster Events cancels the convention! Most people had already flown in and were expecting to take part in the convention activities the next day. Amazingly, the SoCal Browncoats were able to put together some semblance of activities and a convention schedule in a VERY limited amount of time. Not only did the Browncoats still have a Firefly convention, but the actors from the show came anyway (despite not being paid) and partied in the hotel and bars with all of the bummed attendees. Some actors who had previously cancelled (like Morena Baccarin due to SG-1 and Alan Tudyk who was filming a movie) took red-eye flights just to show the fans how much they cared (before jumping on another flight back to go to work the next day!) I have never seen a fandom come together like this, especially the compassion of the actors involved. StarWars fandom especially could learn a lot from the Browncoats who band together when things get rough and just aren't willing to take "No" for an answer. I tip my hat to the SoCal Browncoats, Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Ron Glass, Christina Hendricks (Saffron/Bridget/Yolanda), Mark Sheppard (Badger), Michael Fairman (Niska), and Greg Edmonson (Firefly composer) for once again doing the impossible and holding a convention even after it is cancelled!

how about some of that pine pounder?

Posted by: B_W Posted on: Friday December 8 2006 12:30pm
Naw, B_W admitting to drinking beer will not generate any kind of infamy near close to what the moment is formerly known for. However, you didn't ask what KIND of beer will be drunk. Yeah. You might be surprized!

I'm in. For technology and b33r, that is. Pants, well, that's another story...

I'm so freakin' busy with family shizzle (oh crap...I was reading an article on Snoop Dogg in Rolling Stone and now I'm talking like him) this month that no weekend is good.

Now... In other news... I'm leaving Rockford for Madison, WI.

Posted by: Peter Posted on: Friday December 8 2006 3:42am
B_W, you will be sitting back drinking BEER? For shame! It's a sad day when the proprietor and creator of Big Whisky and Lifestyle Gin admits to drinking beer... Let the record show that B_W made that comment on 11:38 (was George Lucas somehow involved?) on December 7th. I guess that day will now live in infamy for yet another reason.

Posted by: B_W Posted on: Thursday December 7 2006 11:38pm
Well, I'm gonna kick back at the estates the 15th, 16th, and 17th, with some technology, and some games, and some beer. Anyone who wants to join, please let me know, and we'll have some fun.

To the rest who can't make it, let's get together in the new year for a real old fashioned LAN. I might even have a computer this time!

Later peeps,
D_R

A few matters:

First, some sad news, James Kim, of former TechTV fame, was found dead in the Oregon Mountains. He went looking for help when he and his family's car got stuck after they took a wrong turn. His family was found safely yesterday after, I believe, nine days in the wilderness.

This is truly a sad turn of events.

+++

Second, we can have the event over at my place. That would be fine.

Third, is Johnney wrong?

Posted by: Peter Posted on: Tuesday December 5 2006 5:14pm
B_W, I'll see if I can make it. That weekend I will be grading papers and final exams while making some sweet Biology-related Korporate Media of my own for our department holiday party.

pete, I think we (u and me) should also play some star wars lego action

p.s. w00t

Posted by: B_W Posted on: Tuesday December 5 2006 11:19am
I say we start it up on the 15th, then I can get rowdy the 16th during the day, then in the early evening I have to go to a corporate party (not the good kind) then I will come back and we will get ever rowdyer until the morning light.

Sound like a plan?

David

crow, then you can watch this year's MEDIA.

I have a final on the 17th. D: I'll be done on/by the 20th though. Curse you, timing!

Y'alls should come out on the 9th, though, as it will Rock. Remember that dude I spun with who played the Bad Songs? He's gone now!
