I am in corporate purgatory! Purgetory only in that it shall be a mere matter of time before my soul springs free! Alas, that day will not come soon enough...

Pray for me, kind hearted souls. Pray for my quick delivery from these every torrid flames, flames that lick upon my broken and deformed countenance!

Your friend,

Last night CJOS and I had a chance to meet the wonderfully colorful B-actor Bruce Campbell and even got him to autograph his new novel, "Make Love: The Bruce Campbell Way!". Afterwards we stuck around for a screening of his new movie for Sci-Fi Channel, "The Man With A Screaming Brain". To believe that this movie is anything more than typical Bruce Campbell B-movie fare is laughable. But if you are looking for some good cheesy Bruce Campbell moments, this movie has it. It should be playing on Sci-Fi in late September or early October.

Perhaps most interesting, I got a picture of Ted Raimi jaywalking to go have a drink at Hooligans. Ted Raimi apparently spent the entire evening walking around Milwaukee bar-hopping! I'll have to post the picture of Ted Raimi in all of his Joxer-esque glory (stupified look a must!).

That wasn't a link, B_W. Justin's code worked a little TOO well. It saw the three periods between the letters R, I, and P, and assumed it was a web address.

Posted by: Big_Whisky Posted on: Thursday July 28 2005 7:25pm
Peter, that makes me SO VERY SAD! The link didn't work for me, so if you could sent that link to me directly, I can continue with the mourning process.

Sadly, B_W, Squishy hath shed his mortal coil and passed beyond the realm of tangible existence. But weep not, for through his death came much valuable scientific data. Do not mourn for Squishy would not have wanted to go any other way.

I think it's more the 'hubris' curse, aka 'don't get cockey'. I like how the first superman died...didn't he jump off a building or something? Those were the daze.

How's Squishy? Was science too harsh on him?

Posted by: CJOS Posted on: Sunday July 24 2005 9:27pm
Hello all! I know I haven't posted in a little bit, but I enjoy lurking around and reading about everyone's life. Life has been good to me so far. Work has been crazy. B_W and I have had a lot of bouts with technology at 4 Media (because really, who isn't pro-media?) but I believe we are getting the upper hand.

Contrary to prior belief and superstition, my birthday is this Friday, and I'm going to celebrate it by seeing "Spider-Man 2" at the IMAX at 7:00 and then going to the gold old ... er good old Marquette bars for darts and spirits. Come for a little bit or stay out the whole night. The movie costs $10.00 and I'm not sure if they'll show previews or sell popcorn like other theaters so you may have to bring your own.

Another event of interest is that Bruce Campbell will be at a book signing and movie screening this Thursday night. I will be going and my friend Dan Augustine will also be coming along for the fun. I'd love to see some of you guys there if anyone is interested. I sent some info to Peter, but he has not responded to my e-mails or my phone calls. I'm beginning to think something has happened to him in the lab. I fear that the recent postings from him on this message board may actually be from a lamprey wearing a fake beard. Be cautious.

Intrigue,
You know, i've been up to the normal. Riding my moped/scooter/vespa. Watching asian TV. You know, what I always do.

Now 2 things.
1. dollar signs go BEFORE the ammount. Example: The government owes me...like $1,000,000.00 dollars!

2.what the heck does this line mean?
"ok, so a girl, did it she was able to cry in 7.64 seconds while thinking
about a scarry deream that entailed a man witha knife chasing after her."

Hmmm...
Perhaps staying out of the sun IS a good option. ;)

Hawaii Update

It is just not fair, i love japanese TV and i cant watch it in milwaukee.
I am going to miss hawaii, there are 3-5 stations with asian programming.
Right now i am hooked on one of those reality TV shows were they offer
someone 10,000$ to do something strange. tasks up till now are, swinging
over a lake to catch a falling box, moving an electrifyed wand through
a wire maze withour exploding a firecracker, and now, can you cry in
10 seconds for 10,000$. This is great, and i am hooked.

I am thinking about skiping the goth club in favor of food and sleep,
so that i can learn how to surf tommarrow. I cant decided what to get for
dinner, there is so much to chose from, and :) half of it is asian food.
this is paridise, at the buffet in the hotel, they have miso soup!!!!

ok, so a girl, did it she was able to cry in 7.64 seconds while thinking
about a scarry deream that entailed a man witha knife chasing after her.

I think the best way to sum up hawaii right now, is that it is the florida,
of the pacific, i would compare it to tampa bay/ clearwater bay, rather than
orlando though. I am haveing a blast out here, i think tomarrow i am going
to rent a moped/scooter/vespa.

What have all of you been up to?

Update Hawaii.

I made it, the flight was a sucess. It only took 12 hours of uknown waiting
in a room that had little or no color, much like sensory deprevation. To add
to that something got to my gatronal intesronal tracked while waiting and i
was on and off the pot to determine if my plane was ready to leave. After
several hours of torture from NorthWestern Airlines(NWA) we finally made it off
the ground sometime around 1:00am milwaukee time and we were at baggage claim by
8:30am milwaukee time. It was 5:00am, honolulu time, before i made to bed.
After a few hours of sleep i made it to breakfast at 10:00am and for the past 2 1/2
hours i have been walking around on the beach and parks here in wikiki and
diamond head. I happend to think that diamond head is better so far, its quiter,
and more natural. I am going to try to find some more hawain things to do later,
but right now, i am just resting and getting out of the sun for awhile, so my
skin can rest.

Posted by: Big_Whiksy Posted on: Friday July 22 2005 11:00am
Wow. At least you can sleep on the plane! ;)

I wouldn't go. If that were the case.

GI-JOE!!!

Oh, sorry, I got caught up in the moment...

Can I run this Jabber, or do I have to be a 'Jobber'? If so a link would be 'TASTY'.

B_W

It's okay, Adam. I'll field this one.

B_W, a Jabber, is either how a someone from Boston would refer to "Jabba the Hutt" from Star Wars or an open XML-based instant messaging platform. Now you know (and knowing is half the battle)!

Posted by: Big Whisky Posted on: Thursday July 21 2005 3:04pm
What are you doing in Minneapolis? Is this Hawaii?

7.00$!? Is that anything like $7.00, or is it like a 'dollar percentage' or something? Actually, $7.00 (American) is rather reasonable in my opinion. The little I need to buy it, $7.00 here and there is much better than $70.00 EVERY SINGLE MONTH. To equate the cost, I would need to buy it TEN TIMES A MONTH! Why would I need to do that? So if I needed to, I would much rather get it a la cartre than pay it to 'the man'!

What is a Jabber?

LET'S ALL BUY SAN ANDREAS!!!

yet another reason, why verizon wireless broadband is indespencible for the moble road warrior.

Don't know what the protection payment was at the time, could have been $250, it looks like that's the going rate on a PowerMac today. Do know Steve didn't get it, because he thought it unnecessary. Because after all, Macs never break down. That's why they cost so much, the finest engineering quality! Only "cheap" PCs break down, such as my Comtrade (which turns 8 this winter).

Posted by: Big_Whisky Posted on: Wednesday July 20 2005 2:18pm
This 'applecare'...it sounds like 'protection money'. You know, the mob.

"Pay us the 'care' money or Jobs will press the majick button blowing your logic board to HELL! JUNGLE HELL! What?? no cash??? Oh, you'll pay Backlot...YOU'LL PAY!!!! BWWAAHAHAH! BWWAHAHAHAHAHAH!"

How much exactly is this 'applecare' anyway? Because for my laptop the warranty was $250 (AMERICAN) for 3 years...and if I drop it or piss on it (which is always a threat) they will cover it.

Oh well.

So our big Dual G5 Mac is officially quite dead. The Certified Apple Tech(tm) doth proclaim that "it's the logic board". I'm not exactly sure what this mysterious "logic board" actually consists of, probably pixies and gold dust, but we do know that it will cost $855 to get it fixed. And, he says that when this happens, one or both of the processors ($630 each) usually goes within 6 months. He says he's been getting a lot of these in lately. The machine is 16 months old (12 month warranty).

After losing a G3, a Mac Mini, and now our workstation, Steve doth proclaim this morning that we're "never buying another Mac."

This could really suck if Sci-Fi thinks "Well, it worked for Farscape..."

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Monday July 18 2005 9:35pm
I think something like "nan desu ka" is more complete if you are trying to say "what, now?" ;)
And apparently "nan" is two syllables, while "desu" is one syllable. Intuitive, huh? Hopefully DBBQC will reacquire internet soon and straighten things out.

Oh, Crowscape, funny story for you, maybe you know what I'm talking about....so, we were going to check out the new Stargate. But instead we got Farscape, with the CG Stargates hastily edited in between the usual sexual tension. What gives? ;)

But will that technique work with the Mac Pro-Series Mouse? Because that's what I use. I, as a professional, don't have time for such things as pointing AND clicking. What do they think I am...superman??? Horse-Hockey! Anyway, I need to rebuild those files post haste, and there can't be any 'clicking' involved. THERE JUST CAN'T!

B_W

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Monday July 18 2005 1:43pm
mainly for DBBQC, but Adam is probably also interested...
a while back I mentioned that heavily-used Macs (such as the Backlot G5) are supposed to be left on all night periodically so scheduled Unix log maintenance and stuff can occur. Well, I found instructions for forcing this to occur whenever I want which should help me maintain the system better...
docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107388

Also, for those of us planning a trip come new year...
I picked up the audio CD compliment to the "Japanese for Busy People" book at Mitsuwa yesterday. It's not much use by itself, but combined with the text I'm finding it quite useful. The spoken language actually seems feasible, with grammar and pronounciation rules that are far more straight-forward than English (for example, formulating questions is remarkably simple, with a single contextual particle replacing all that is/are/who/what/when/where nonsense). Of course, then they had to go and make their written language utterly incomprehensible...i think I'll be happy when I can identify the men's restroom, and call it a day...

You know, I think the one-button mouse is just way too complicated. That's why I'm designing the no-button mouse. If you want to click on something, you put your cursor over it and then hit the enter key on the keyboard. It's just more intuitive, like the open-apple click.

Tsk...tsk...tsk...this is what happens to science in the wrong hands. Mwhahahahahahahaha! Ahem....back to my lab....of DOOM!
