Alright somebody was having some fun. Please, everyone go to Pulgari Trap, and check out the 'Placas all the time menu mod'. Let's just say, it casts the film into a whole new 'light'.

Peter, I don't ever want to feel the harsh brunt of that lightsaber. And having seen that image, let me take back all the mean things I have ever said about episodes 1 & 2.

Those cinema displays look nice. I do like how that whole picture frame-type base has been removed, replace with something more standard. Nice to know Apple finally realized that forcing people to view their LCD screens off angle is not a good thing. ADC port has been replaced with DVI. Hopefully for Apple this will allow them to allow non-Apple specific cards in their systems when they switch to PCI-Express.

Unfortunately, you need a specific card for that 30" display, not simply any one with two DVI ports. Sorry x86 using professionals: that Quadro FX 1000 card won't do it, you'll have to downgrade!

Still though, Apple does not like to tell you what the response times are with their displays. Hopefully Anandtech or x-bit labs will get their hands on them and enlighten us.

Posted by: adam Posted on: Tuesday June 29 2004 5:34pm
Holy Crap.. Has anyone see the 30" Cinema Display (http://www.apple.com/displays/) that Apple Released? It costs almost $3,500 for JUST THE MONITOR. To put that into perspective, that's almost as much as Panasonic's AG-DV100A camcorder (which I'd rather have) and more than the Canon GL-2.

justin, take a look at this, i know that you were thinking of doing something with vantus, you should make a desicion soon. AMD has eliminated the MP line and it will get hard to upgrade your MPs to something faster. Although, i doubt that you will anyways, because of heat problems.

Just one more reason for 3DStudio Max to get hardware rendering enabled:

http://techreport.com/etc/2004q2/nvidia-sli/index.x?pg=1

And hopefully do it better than Maya, so not only do you have a preview quality render, but can also use it for full quality renders as well.

That may be, but the dance number on the DVD is sure to be hot!

Every time I see a new preview for "I, Robot" I become more and more convinced that it's going to be a stinker.

Posted by: CrowScape Posted on: Monday June 28 2004 5:39pm
No, I didn't feel it. I was asleep at the time. Damn, the one time I go to bed early...

As for the date, I say it all depends on how many people will attend. Personally, I don't care much about where we do the LANing, just as long as I have a place to sit and game and and drink and yell obscenities.

Posted by: justin Posted on: Monday June 28 2004 4:22pm
more likely: did CrowScape feel it?

regarding the next LAN, in order to use the party room we'd have to delay to August 7th. What does everyone think about that date? Otherwise, we can have it in the unit on the 24th of July as originally planned. I suppose i'd go for the latter option, since it's sooner, and it will be easier to do climate control (we can cover the windows, and the space is smaller).

2. Opera... I had used Opera for a bit on OS-X, but I abandoned it because I was having major problems on a number of sites with page rendering. Of course, it helped that Mozilla released an update to Camino that improved it quite a bit. (BTW, I almost never use Safari on OS-X. I think Mozilla/Camino is a much better browser than Safari, IE for Mac or Opera)

gmail rocks

opera functionally is cool, but the browser does have problems, and it also will list itself as IE if a page doesnt work. argh

Firefox on the other hand is awsome

Posted by: CrowScape Posted on: Thursday June 24 2004 8:21pm
I hate Opera 7. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. More so than IE. Here is why:

In IE, although it will reliably display many things incorrectly in CSS, it has so many bugs that it's fairly easy to get it to do what you want without those styles being applied in other browsers.

Opera, meanwhile, has decided to improve its CSS compatibility over time. How has it done this? Has fixed all those bugs that we need work arounds for? No, it left those bugs alone and instead "fixed" all the workarounds. So what Mozilla sees, Opera will see. What Mozilla doesn't see, Opera doesn't see. Yet it's still going to handle font sizes, em units and floats differently!

So, that's it. Screw you Opera! I'm no longer going to try to support you, mainly because I'm too damn lazy to run a javascript on all my pages just to detect and powder the ass of your 2% of the market share.

last chance to protest...the next LAN party will be centered around July 24th unless i hear otherwise. That fixes Dave's conflict and also works well around Intrigue's and my own summmer trips. As soon as we move I'm going to look into the party room at Jefferson Block, which we're told we can reserve 24/7 for free. Although the heat may be daunting. we will also inquire about climate control, but so far this summer has been so mild I'm not real worried about it. Plus, the room has a two story atrium so there's plenty of room for heat to rise. If attendance look smaller through, we might just stick to the unit, but it would probably be wise to troubleshoot the room as early as possible to see if it will be suitable for some larger gatherings in the winter.

I'm trying out a new regex algorithm that appears to be smarter than what happens in MSN Messenger and YaBB, for example. Let's see how long it takes us to break it, lest my head begin to swell. The only thing I know could be troublesome is if there's some PHP out there that magically ends in ?, it might get confused. at least the bugs we've seen here are gone, such as the enclosing parens and trailing periods. it also recognizes urls that don't start with www .

Setting up Apache and Tomcat was a pain in the arse.

Let's see. I'm 26 now, so I'll easily be in my 40's when my school debt is paid off. w00t w00t. And I went to a public school AND my loans only go back to when I was in Milwaukee, so 5 years of em' only. Oh and here in GB the majority of my pals will be graduating or have graduated with little or no debt. :)

As for the political stuff all I have to say is-- look over there! [sound of footsteps running away]

The problem is, however, that goverment is "Open Source." It has to be if you are to rationally expect the general populace to obey the laws. Thus, how can you make money with the government by your model? Make it hard to learn. Enter lawyers, the profession whose sole purpose is to make the law so obfuscated and Rube Goldberg that we need to pay them hundreds or thousands of dollars an hour to settle disputes. Imagine this nation where all you needed to do to protect yourself against an unconstitutional law or a lawsuit was to bring in the Constitution.

"Roy Moore, remove the Ten Commandments from the court house under the First Amendment!"
"I'm sorry, but I'm not Congress and the display is not a law, so screw you, the Commandments stay!"

But no, now you don't look to the Constitution, but you have to look to case law. You want to invoke the First Amendment? Get familiar with this version instead:

Open source software : The community owns it and profit is restricted to expert based models, one can make money through the know how to use it. Since the model demands that money is charged to know how to use it, the fact that it is hard to learn how to use it and change it is only motivated by its pricing structure. If someone, a web developer uses it because they know it, their salary is based on the number of other people that know it and can alter the setup, as this volume drops, their salary increased with demand. Open source software also gives IP to other economies and helps our uniqueness in technology diminish by the second!!! The more we give away, the more we devalue it, and the harder it is to turn a profit. Open source is useful for non profit motivated and riskey technologies as there are no discriminating factors to entry into the marketplace/ community. Open source also allows people who know to mix with people who dont know, this intriduces a strong socratic enviroment to question the process before you, and holds you to a different understanding your own desicions in code.

Closed Source: Is owned by the original proprietor, and thus all of the responsibility is on the proprietor to make the product atractive to users. This is a great model when a NEW vision that is going to be created, where a close group of people are going to make something NEW and they are going to challenge other markets with the new design. Closed Source is also a prediditial model, that limits people based on the Proprietors whishes, this very often keeps the code within the country that the proprietor resides, a good thing for the american population. Closed source falls short though on bug resolution, as the proprietor must do all of the testing and the patches them selves, sometimes causing quite the delay. Closed source is also limited in the number of features that are avalible, as because the matainence is done with limited resources, the more features you add, the harder it is to maintain.

Shared Source: Sometimes called Distributed source is a model that tries to limit the downside to both previous models and is the model that many companies like Microsoft are moving to compete with the turnaround time of Open source. Shared source is a model where the proprietor owns and manages all of the code, but in unique instantces relationships are formed that allow access to the underlining code. This keeps vision clear and concise, it forces the developer to be customer centric and user friendly, but it creates increased virtual resources for testing and development, as segments of code can be leased to close relationships under lock and key.

I am totaly in favor of shared source as developer/ expert and user demands can easily met without diminishing value in the product.

Woot, woot on the libertarian comment!!

they may not be as qualified for office, but that is the point, down with career politions and government for the masses. Government sould be like any well designed product, it is so sleek and easy to use that you can only remember all of the good time that you have with it.

my 350z is a great example of this, i am so in love with my "sports car" that i forget that i can only carry two people, cant move my apartment in it, nor is the gas cheep for all 18 gallons of the tank, but i love that car so much.

i wish our government was so loveable that we will willing to sacrafice some creature comforts like welfare, and government health care, and the right to sue someone for owning a dog for what ever price you can dream up.

Government should provide FIRM STRUCTURE, and leave the policy to the changing people of the country.

re: "you are what you average"
never really was my personal preference, but I like to bring it up because that's the reality of how society functions, and you can't escape it. example: i could produce a list of academic aid programs that I wasn't eligible for simply because I'm white, and the assumption of society is that all white kids are obviously rich and priveledged. Nevermind the truth that I'm going to be paying for school into my 30's (despite the performance scholarships I earned later), and I have minority friends that are already out of debt.

these fallacious assumed stratifications are everywhere, and most of them are imposed by the supposedly-benevolent Democratic Party, which is one of the reasons I hate putting them in office. It's very unlikely we'll have a society that judges individuals as long that Party is around, and probably the Republican's too. It pains me to say it, but the best way to make progress in this regard is to start electing Libertarians.

Posted by: CrowScape Posted on: Thursday June 17 2004 11:39am
Yeah, I downloaded the "Right click for IE" as well as the developer's tools right off the bat.

Back to OSS, Apache is actually worse than Firefox when it comes to what I was complaining about: setting it up. How the hell do I change the default directory for me to load my html/php files into? Tomcat is even worse, as I had to go into autoexec.bat to get that one set up (and I still don't know how to set the directory, if it's even possible). This is the BIG problem with OSS: set up is almost always a bitch. To make matters worse, the documentation assumes you know what you're doing already. I've seen so many setup tutorials that say "add this to your PATH" but Autoexec is never once mentioned. Or "go to the command line and type -javac whatever" yet neglect to tell you to set up the Java SDK first. Once you get the thing going then it could be the best tool for the job, but the learning curve is so damn high simply because it is being built solely by computer geeks.

I'll concede that not all open source is half assed. I've just been burned so many times by stuff from that community that it's easy to forget the success stories (Apache, Mozilla). I know (as in opnion) that I like Mozilla's stuff a helluva more than IE. But I digress. I haven't heard you say this in a while but if you still ascribe to "You are what you average" in regards to ethnic groups you have to give that up too. :)

Aside from that, I'm a good capitolist. I just wanna be paid for my work. I don't understand how people can work on something like Mozilla or Apache and not get paid for it. Just because something is open source need not mean that the primary developers are unpaid. Nor that you couldn't sell compiled code (as some do on CD's). Apprently some Mozilla developers are paid but Apache developers don't see cash flow that often, and never from the foundation itself. I guess working on these projects does look good on a resume. Although in my experiance that's something you tell yourself when you're getting screwed and want to put a positive spin on it.

Yeah, I sound like Billy Gates here. But hell, I would like to make enough money to retire someday And I can't do anything like invest until I have some capitol to invest. Did I say that right? I just don't get how these people can work for free. That doesn't make sence to me. Even if they did it for experiance why aren't they tring to profit off it now? It's not like running Apache is a gateway to using software that will get these people paid (as far as I know). MS has the right idea with IIS. You want to run it, you at least have to pay them for Windows. So, they could in theroy at least sell Apache licenses for a little less than the price of an upgrade to XP. Plug-ins like Jakarta and PHP could still be free. But at least then the developers could put some food on the table, shit even buy a table, for their efforts.

I should research this cause this is a news story that people will make this stuff for nothing.

if i > 1 then opensource(i) != halfassed

what i'm trying to say is...not necessarily. it depends on your sample. there are numerous applications where things work best open source, for example, that little thing called Apache that, you know, makes the internet go. remember what it was like trying to get decent applications for a Macintosh before they went to a mostly open OS? I don't, and that's because it was pretty much impossible. Linux may suck for us human users, but to the folks building modern superclusters and utilizing 64-bit, things would probably be a lot harder without it.

Also, if one assumes that the converse is true (not saying you did), and that closed source == whole-assed, that is also a flawed assumption. see: MSIE, MOO3, OS9, WinME, etc.... I bet a little more open collaboration could have helped. heck, my websites might not suck so much soon, since i've started collaborating with Intrigue and CrowScape.

i'm for giving credit where due regarding open source. sweeping generalizations are inaccurate.

hey CrowScape, did you check out the extension and theme managers for Firefox 0.9? there's some pretty slick shit available. the new right-click shortcuts are great for dev, such as "open in IE". also, future updates should preserve your bookmarks not that "data migration/import" is working. pre-1.0 is always a risk.

First off, that cooling system looks pretty...well...interesting. That's my comment for now.

Second off, dot's are way hot. 555.555.5555 looks way cooler than 555-555-5555. Also, what kind of number has multipal dots in it anyway? Now if they used commas, that would be way confusing. 555,555,5555. Yeah. But in this circle, from now on I suggest commas all the way. Keeps those people on their toes. Yeah, oh yeah!

But you know what, I do agree with Lucky on this one: "And if we no longer get our hot action, then the terrorists have won!"

No, putting dots in phone numbers isn't a midwest thing... it's a HOT thing, think 'Hollywood Hot' that is! So, take it to the streets, 'dot', because you make phone numbers 'hot'.

now...if only you could say the dots, dating would be so much easier...

"Hey, U give ME a call sometime, 555dot6667." It doesn't work too well. But 414.555.6667, is just plain HOT! Whoo!

that would explain the apparent absense of a reservoir...yeah, if they're doing this for noise concerns then it's probably a good idea. heck, you're paying such an outrageous premium for these things, it would be nice if they weren't so damn loud. that's why i admire the eMac so much, it just seems engineered so much better. at MATA, the 1ghz eMacs (+ SuperDrive) are essentially silent, but the older PowerMac in the Avid (with the same specs only more memory) sounds like tornadoes at an airport. WTF? Hopefully this heat pipe thing is a sign they're putting the same care into the new PowerMac designs as they put into eMac and iMac, instead of just kicking them out the door as soon as possible.

regarding CSS, i know i should learn it, but i never wanted to be a web designer, and whenever these assignments appear they always need it now, which doesn't exactly allow time to write (let alone learn) CSS. "Uh, Rick needs a website to show Technicolor at 2pm pacific, it needs this content and to look like our physical correspondence." Poot!

For the game that we failed to get in MOO3, word on the street is that Hegemonia delivers. Also, this is supposed to be the shit for LAN parties:

Oh, and quick question: is using periods in phone numbers instead of dashes a mid-west thing? As I never ran into that until I came out here.

Posted by: CrowScape Posted on: Monday June 14 2004 10:13pm
Damn it! Stupid page didn't refresh since JUNE EIGHTH and today I get a russian novel to read (so I only skimmed it)!

Let me just say one thing about the G5s: They are not liquid cooled, at least not in the sense that most people think of when it comes to liquid cooling. It's simply using a heat pipe, which is not a big deal in the least. iBooks, I believe, have been using heat pipes for a while, so why not the G5?

As for the font issue, here is where you should learn CSS:

p {font-family: courier, georgia, times new roman, times, serif}

Don't have courier? Go to georgia. Don't have georgia? Go to times new roman. Don't have times new roman? Go to times. Don't have times? Use the default serif font.

And you aren't going to be able to predict word wrap, because many people enlarge their browser font sizes. Unless you specify everything on your webpage in terms of inches, which is the only non-relative unit (even pixels are considered relative by every browser except IE), you will have to deal with the fact that your word wrapping will be screwed.

tried 'em...verdana and georgia are too different from our print media to use. most of our identity stuff involves Harting, and the closest system font appears to be courier. also, looks like verdana and georgia have variable kerning/width issues i'd rather not deal with. I like being able to predict line wrapping. the only readability problem that still annoys me is the strong "m" turning into a little black blob on IE, but Macs don't have the problem so it's probably just IE sucking it's typically gigantic load of penis. got rid of the useless bold under the mission statement to mitigate that.

So, if the 14th don't work, how's a boot on the 21st of Joo-lie for the next LAN party?

Posted by: Dream BBQ Child Posted on: Monday June 14 2004 12:33pm
Georgia and Verdana should be on all machines.

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Sunday June 13 2004 11:34am
is that a system font that everyone will have? I'll try it out on monday. anyway, I was looking for the font descrepancies you describe between mac/win, and at least in the case of browsers, the real difference in appearance seems to come from the fact that all fonts on OSX are nice and antialiased. same fonts, just all blurred edges. I've got my Netscape 7.1 on XP to do the same thing, and it looks swell. no idea how to make IE do that though. Like i said, this is going to be shown at a bunch of agencies that are mac zealots anyway, so IE is quite irrelevant thankfully, since all the Panthor boxes i've seen are loaded with Safari as default. Adam says Camino is also looking fine, so I should be covered. thanks for the imput though. If I really get sick of this font bullshit, I'll just take screenshots of the way Mozilla for Mac renders it, since that looks the best i think, and have everything be gifs. it's not like the text is going to be changing very often.

Justin, you may want to change the font to Georgia. It's a serif font too but designed for web display by Matthew Carter. Should make the page more readable.

I don't have a net connection for my mac right now so I dunno how it looks there.

Posted by: Dream BBQ Child Posted on: Saturday June 12 2004 12:23pm
Actually Whisky, that's roughly about what happened. The G5 or PPC 970 existed while Motorola was sitting on it's ass, wondering if they wanted to make only cell phones or if they wanted to make processors too. The 970 came from IBM's server chip the Power4. The two chips are pretty much alike but the Power4 has 2 proessor cores on board however, for the 970, the second core had to be removed in order to put AltiVec on board (or VMX if it's an IBM paper, Apple will often call this same technology the Velocity Engine. Thank you lawyers for this!) The Power4 also has more transistors on it, naturally.

Since the AIM (Apple, IBM, Motorola) Alliance created the PowerPC architecture, it has been 64-bit with a 32-bit subset. By inlarge, before the 970 the processsors released were 32-bit. HOWEVER, years ago the PPC 620 existed that was also 64-bit. That, however, did not do very well.

The 970 was NOT targeted specifially for Apple to begin with (It was presented on October, 12 2002). The true G5 was supposed to come from Motorola. However, even when it was announced the 970 and Apple were a match made in Silicon Heaven. But when they dropped the ball, IBM had this chip ready to go. Thus, the G5 as we know it is not the G5 as it is not a fifth generation processor. It is the first to be derived from the Power4. What will likely be called the G6 is supposed to come from the Power5 chips from IBM. However, recently Motorola spun off it's semi-conductor company and they have apprently stepped up processor development. So it is possible that the G6, or maybe it would more aptly named G5 Mark 2 (or something), will come from them. If Apple goes with it is unknown at this time. There is a chance one of these processors will find their way into your next car though, as one of Motorola's big buyers for it's PowerPC processors is the automotive industry.

Reports exists that the issue of ramping up the speed of the the 970FX (the version of the 970 made with a 0.09um process) is due to unforseen complications in using this new process. As such, it has been announced that we are not to expect the 3Ghz G5 anytime soon, making Steve Jobs statement from last year incorrect.

So you may be asking now, just why the hell do I know all this? Am I a closet Mac zealot? No, I'm right out and up front by my love for Apple. :) BUT I also did my Computer Org. paper on the PowerPC.

Whew.

Okay, it has become very clear that getting networking to work with my game is going to be very, very hard. Very very sucky. Very very annoying. Fwee!

Posted by: Big_Whisky Posted on: Friday June 11 2004 11:43pm
Hmmm, I guess I could make fun of IBM...and I would take some joy in that...but I would much rather make fun of Apple for buying their processors from half-hearted companies. (i.e. motorola) Perhaps they could consider investing in a company that might 'care' or produce a 'quality' product?
I might be in the dark here, but where did IBM pull this 64 bit processor out of? Intel has been struggling with their version for some time, and AMD just got something going reciently. Did IBM have this wonderful 64 bit 'apple-saving-dream-chip' lying on some shelf somewhere saying, "gee, I sure hope someone buys this chip, since we put SOOO much R&D into it. Way more than those major microprocessor manufacturers."

Well, I am sure it will be fine. Just wear your heat suit and your flak vest when operating.

doesn't seem to work on any of my mac browsers, nor mozilla/firefox for windows, which is a bad implementation since most designers use mac for some strange reason, most people won't see this. the source seems to rely more on JavaScript than on HTML anyway. you should look at DBBQC's animated storyboards in DHTML sometime, that's far more impressive.

Did a socket-based chat program in Java once. icky.

www.backlotimaging.com
made in 4 hours with notepad and Illustrator. Again, it's more important that it works on Mac than on PC, so if one of you Apple folks could please test it on Camino I'd appreciate it. Mozilla 1.6 Mac renders it ideally, I also tested Safari 1.2, IE Mac, IE 6, and Firefox 0.8 PC, all of which are close enough. The only real variance is the paragraph leading, which requires CSS to fix, but that alone doesn't seem to break anything. So you can use any of those as reference. Thanks.

Yeah! I wrote my first working socket program! Still have a lot of fun to have though before I have anything graphical for my game. I also want to get the opennurbs SDK working so I can use Rhino 3d models for ships.

Sockets are wee bit annoying and not too user friendly though. But at least the port to OS X shouldn't be too bad.

Posted by: Dream BBQ Child Posted on: Thursday June 10 2004 11:53am
Technicality note: we should be picking on IBM for the G5 processor's issues.

As for the G6 nothing is solid on that yet. I don't expect it for some time. But who really knows?

Posted by: Big_Whisky Posted on: Wednesday June 9 2004 9:46pm
Considering that the Opteron series of 64 bit chips runs COOLER and uses LESS juice than others, Apple seems to be going in the opposite direction. Apple has had qutie a bit of experience overclocking their processors though, as we witnessed with the 1.x ghz G4s. You really had to duck and cover around those, they blew up left and right. You know, now that I think about it, the last time I was in the Mac store it was really really hot in there. (and not 'hollywood hot' either) All the sales guys were wearing shorts and sweating. The AC in the place probably couldn't keep up with all those overclocked G4s and G5s. Hot times in a hot town.
It's alright, perhaps we can convice Jobs to throw in a nice case fan for the USER, and perhaps a little plate on the top so you can cook some steaks (or vegges if your a vegan) on the top. It would promote the California recycle mindset. Could be good.

Don't worry though, my dual mp 2000s get plenty hot themselves. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Later G's,
Big_Whisky

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Wednesday June 9 2004 4:21pm
by longevity I was actually referring to the G5's lifetime as a product line. My dual 2ghz G5 at work is neither quiet nor cool when it's actually crunching on something, and if they're already pulling out elaborate cooling schemes on this 1st major clock speed ramp for this chip, it makes me wonder how many more ramps there will be before the design maxes out. put simply...is this overclocking? should we expect the G6 soon?

Posted by: Dream BBQ Child Posted on: Wednesday June 9 2004 1:04pm
I would think that it could actually incrase the life span by keeping the processor even cooler than with just a fan. From my understanding, hardware's nemesis is heat. As long as you get rid of it, that's the important thing. I think. But I'm a software guy so I'm not 100% sure. Could this change also be due to noise over heat? It strikes me that apple has been rather obsessed with quiet cooling since the G5 came out a year ago.

Still, as it's something new from apple, I woudn't buy one of these machines right now. How much do you want to bet within the next 6 months something will go wrong with this new unit.

OpenGL with PHP. That's a good one. In theroy, it could work. But what's the difference between theroy and practice? In theroy, nothing. In practice, everything. I would have to ask if this implementation supports hardware acceleration. I suppose it could, again in theroy, but this feature was not initalized in the PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR.

For my beloved performance, if I'm doing OpenGL TODAY i'm going to want a compiled language. A scripting language like PHP, well, no. Maybe in a few years it'll be do able. But right now, I'm working on figureing out socket programming (since I didn't take a networking course) so I can implement my "door" game. YES I know DirectPlay can do this for me but I want to port the game to the Mac so I can have some porting experiance.

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Wednesday June 9 2004 10:08am
that's interesting. In order to bump the new G5s up to 2.5 ghz, Apple had to make liquid fucking cooling standard equipment. That's can't be a good sign for the longevity of the chip. remember that the FX-53 goes to 2.6ghz with only stock fans, according to THG. engineers: is there a comparison?

I haven't been watching the mod scene as closely since the LAN, but I do know they've patched carball to fix the bugs we had with the ball getting stuck, and also Unreal Annihilation has been ported to 2004, thankfully. I'll check that out this weekend, but word is it's quite buggy at this point.

the link is just the main page, for the beta signups you have to go to hit the news section and follow the instructions. unless you have previous testing experience, we probably won't get selected for the june 14th round, but there will be more (bigger) groups later, and a public demo in the fall, so they say.

By Grabthar's hammer! I don't think even Justin could have seen forseen this! We moved the non-Pulgari-based chatter to spoolan to leave the forum open on Pulgaritrap.com for Pulgari discussion. Now that we've done that, you are talking about Pulgari on Spoolan! (I have to admit that I started it off with the Chico article).

As for Borrsk, there's no way he's being replaced or substituted....at least not until we've perfected digital eyelash technology. Borrsk is too critical to the Pulgari plotline to be removed. Besides, after a little bit of cool edit work, even Whiskey will be impressed with our drunken Bothan ("Oh! I like to drink, drink, drink....." Watch the mockumentary on Pulgaritrap.com if you don't get this joke).

Ze code might be a starting point. The secure stuff should be fun.

I saw some of those job postings at blizzard and I sent my resume in.

I dont know anyone that currently works at johnson controls.

From what i am noticing, i need a BB that allows you to post files and offers a significant amount of security people will be developing IP on here and they cant have there stuff network sniffed. Another feature that i would like to have is a secure VCS(version control system) for development. I dont know if there are any secure BB's out there.

Matt, your code, might get us going though.

May I ask, or rather, recieve an answer as to why this Borsk character is so... detrimental... to the Pulgari Trap's final quality?

Posted by: Burned_Whisky Posted on: Monday June 7 2004 10:43pm
Yo,
In order to raise those Pulgari expectations, you might want to annouce the replacement of the "Borsk" character with a poor CG replacement. In all the scenes containing "Borsk" you could just do a freeze frame, paint the big bad bothan out once, then replace him with something...anything. Expectations will rise up to such an extent that Jim will only need a small trowel. ;) (just kidding) But I am serious about the "Borsk" character substitution. I will cut him out myself, if you want. ;P

Yeah, I am still feeling that sweet LAN action. However, it has been determined that the Landmark pool has too much clorine. (my haircutter noticed high levels of clorine one week after the swim...with frequent hair washings I might add)
July 17th will interfear with my 'summer gathering' and a wedding I will have to shoot. Don't hold up on my account. It's all good.

Alright, I will get some more sun. More LAN and other news to come shortly.

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Monday June 7 2004 3:10pm
oh, and regarding bombing run, if you were on my team, then why do I distinctly remember being sniped by you - repeatedly - on "Colossus"? most likely the teams fluctuated a bit, the only thing that was consistent was me walking all over Intrigue. ;)

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Monday June 7 2004 3:06pm
I think Intrigue's old roommate Dan had worked there at one time, and didn't Kate work for them through Manpower for a little bit? They've got a couple different offices in Milwaukee...

The hope the only expectation for Pulgari Trap that I've promoted is that "it will be bigger and longer than any previous fan film", and since early edits have clocked in at over three hours without the space battle or the speeder chase, I think that's a safe bet (since the closest competition is about 35 minutes with like 4 characters).

Posted by: Dream BBQ Child Posted on: Monday June 7 2004 11:42am
Cool. I have some ASP message stuff written from my graduation party. It hooks up to an mySQL database but porting it to what ever would be easy enough.

'Star Wars' fans loooove 'Clones' (Journal-Sentinel article 5/16/02)

"This time, I have lower expectations so I won't be disappointed," said Hernan Chico, 20, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and a broadcasting major who just wrapped his junior year at Marquette University.

"For 'Phantom Menace,' I got more into it - maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it as much."

regarding the gaming...utterly schooling Intrigue, Folken, and them adept bots at Bombing Run was definitely a highlight. AVP2 was indeed above room temperature, as was fending off the hordes in 2004 Assault.
