| Adult Swim rules. They're re-running Witch Hunter Robin, but instead of just playing it through normally, they've decided they're going to draw crazy mustaches on all of the characters whenever the scene is reasonably static. What other network would mess with their shows like that? | |

Regarding the UPS, I should be able to get 2 or 3 from work for the event to help out. I'll also bug Intrigue to get another 15 amp extension cord since mine came in handy. in gaming tech: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=15008 If A-Cen is the 15th, how's about May 22nd for SpooLAN \/? ;) |

thanks for the input, that's what this is here for. next time you're over we should site-survey ye olde party room together, and determine if it has a better or worse electrical system. I haven't counted circuits, but I wouldn't call it a "conference room", it is basically a 3-bedroom apartment minus the walls. So it is unlikely that it has an inferior power capacity. Plus, we wouldn't have to compete with all the other crap in our apartment, such as the entertainment system (yes, I agree we should have turned all that stuff off last time...but I didn't feel like arguing about it then, this is simpler). The logistical advantages downstairs are obvious: 1) Many (and more comfortable) chairs available. 2) Access to the main deck for "air out" breaks and grilling. 3) Superior (and clean) kitchen facilities. 4) Pool table. 5) Pool. 6) Roughly twice the floor space. I think that we should seriously consider it based on these amenities. Since this will most likely be the last SpooLAN event at Landmark, we might as well go out in style. |

| Wow, I just re-read my last post. Guys, please don't intrepret it as being pissy. The language seems a lot more harsh than what was intended. I don't have anything against conference room, but I think it would be more enjoyable if we were able to just party in the apartment. Just appoint me as the Electricity Nazi for the next gathering. Anyway, later all. | |

I knew that was SOP, which is what made it so damned funny; the feeling that I have played with that "guy" before. Sure, maybe not in a MMORPG, but Tribes or Half Life. For the next LAN I'm going to suggest only running a single PC from my UPS. We had two pulling from the battery and it just isn't built for that kind of demand. |

I'm ready for another set of gaming action. There is one weekend in May where I'm not available, which I should have determined soon. Justin, in regards to the "maxing" of your apartment circuits, some better precautions just need to be made. If you noticed, and I sure as hell did, the same set of computers (and switches) kept losing power during the party. In fact, we all know this wasn't the first party this issue occurred at. If you remember I made an effort to place my machine on a seperate circuit when we first arrived. Simply moving down into a room with the same number of people and likely HALF as many available circuits won't make the issue go away, in fact it would increase the issue. There are, however, some things we can do to make this much more satisfying electrical experience for all. ****CAUTION: Electrical Engineer NERD ON**** I going to keep this simple and leave switching supply transients and other things out of the picture. Residential electrical service to apartments is commonly in the 100A-RMS range for Single-Phase, 3-Wire 120/240 RMS V.A.C. input. Depending on breaker-pole configuration, this may vary what goes where. It is unlikely that a single room in any building, even a conference room, except ones designed for extreme purposes (i.e. hospital surgery, heavy machine shop, manufacturing floors, etc) come even close or exceed this level of input. Doing VERY "fuzzy" and simple math here can leads us to believe that we are nowhere near any maxing of the apartment circuits. Solution #1: EASY AND CHEAP. 15+ feet 3-pronged extension cords! I'll be bringing my mine, perhaps even a 25 or 50 footer to the next party to ensure I'm not on the "fun" circuit you guys are on. The ideal cord, for any interested in making a purchase, is a 12-AWG cord (sometimes yellow in color, capable up to 15 Amps, some manufacturers like to market this as "contractor" grade, usually 20 bucks for 50 feet). Now, some seeking a cheaper route may try their hands at 16-AWG (usually orange in color, 13 Amp capable) cords for slightly less. Now, there may be some, ableit scaredy-cat, people who caution placing an extension cord with a surge protector. There are some small precautions, but just ask me if you have any questions. It's not a big deal. We're not running 10 laser printers here. Solution #2: EASY. Electrical Appliances on certain circuits MUST NOT TURN ON. For instance, the damned HVAC units. It's May, just open the fucking windows a crack. Saving everyone a lecture on motor power, Apparent Power fundamentals, HVAC transient conditions, and electrical theory, just trust me when I say it's not a good idea to run a washer/dryer, heater, air conditioner on a circuit with a decent load. The breaker might trip, after all that is its damned job. Also keep the damn refridgerator door shut. The compressor on the fridge won't kick in if the cold air is left inside. Ice coolers placed on the balcony work wonders. I'll bring one with ice. This is all dependant on what is placed where. Just ask me. Solution #3: DONE OVER THE LONG TERM. We should seriously consider (for those of us we don't possess them yet) LCD Monitors. My next computer system, coming the end of this year, will include a lovely (or two lovely) 19" LCD screens (Hell, maybe even a 21", but we'll see). The reason is say this is it's not uncommon for a single 19" monitor to consume 100-110W, nominal or max, power whereas a lot of 19" LCD monitors can consume half that amount. Now, don't think this a free ticket to harass anyone for bringing a CRT. Instead, everyone should think of this when doing their next purchase if they can spring a few extra bucks. This power consumption from CRTs isn't a big deal, but it helps a small amount. The first solution really is easy and is the likely solution. I'll bring an extension cord or two next time. If anyone cares to get into a pissing match about this, I'll cross-reference with my friend Mark. He designs building circuits for electrical contractors and is licensed by the State. He'll have the specifics and code regulations, since that is what he does all day. My name is Eric and I'm an Electrical Engineer |

| Jim, pretty much S.O.P (standard operating procedure) for some people on MMORPGS. That was one of a couple reasons contributing to my departure from Everquest. The law of diminishing returns, coupled with loot-hungry grab-asses running guilds and people like this robot seem to satire, dampened my gaming experience. | |

| ok. next event. May! When in may? well, we need to figure that out. there are some things going on, like A-Cen i believe, that we need to work around...let's start figuring that out soon. Since we are perilously close to outgrowing the apartment power grid, I'm going to be fairly persistent about getting a guest list early. If turnout is as good as last time or better, I think we'll try that party room downstairs. so let's get our shit figured out ASAP. | |

wouldnt this still push programming jobs overseas?? and engineering jobs, only factory jobs will be saved! Current tax laws allow American companies to defer paying taxes on income earned by their foreign subsidiaries until they bring it back to the United States. If they keep the money abroad, they avoid paying U.S. taxes entirely. Kerry would require companies to pay taxes on their international income as they earn it rather than being allow to defer it. The new system would apply to profits earned in future years only, not retroactively. He also would allow companies to defer taxes when they located a business in a foreign country that serves that nation's markets. A U.S. company seeking the tax break could open a car factory in India to sell cars in India, for example, but could not relocate abroad to sell cars back to the United States or Canada. Kerry's campaign estimates that the change would save $12 billion a year. The savings would be used to reduce the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 33.25 percent - a 5 percent reduction. |

| not much 2K4 for me until i rebuild Vantus, with a new harddrive, but that means getting all my Discreet liscensing information found and carefully archived...that'll take a little time i won't have until this weekend. I did put it on Aphex, ready to go, and i did (in fact) check out the "mothership" map...and discovered that it was really hard. Kept getting shot down by turrets while trying to figure out what the hell is going on. It seems to require a lot more people to play balanced, which is a good thing (especially for LAN). could've put some bots in, I suppose, but then i got distracted by that Frozen Throne. But as of last night, I finally conquered that shit (intense!), so there is nothing standing in the way of a little UT this weekend. | |

Greetings, I was so excited, I fired up 2k4 again last night, got into some hot action and...it crashed. Oh well, re-installed windows and will give it another go tonight! Now I can use IE again! Whoo!!! Has anyone played those space levels yet? I would like to hear a little about those. So far I am really digging the level design, and the old-schoolyness there-in. oops. that was mein. Remember, Intrigue loves those virus-friendly Microsoft products (especially in leather), so it's unlikely he'd be able to fathom someone looking for another product. ;) I finally made it to the last Frozen Throne campaign stage. Damn, this shit's good, and I'm going to miss it. The possibility of WarCraft III toppling Starcraft on my list of top RTS games is now very real. especially after watching that one guy at the LAN climb the whole Brood War tech tree in like 7 minutes, and cripple 2 zerg players using mostly science vessels. Poot, i say. |

| Following Intrigue's suggestion at the LAN (and I take it that is who you are Mr. Anonymous) I did, in fact, go and download Thunderbird. It is now sitting, nicely setup, on my desktop while Outlook Express has been banished from my sight! Thank you for the suggestion. Even though it is a pre-release it seems to be stable and does everything I want. My biggest concern is that all the effort I went through to change its icon will have to be redone when the next version comes out. | |

CrowScape, you were asking about a standalone alternative to Outlook Express...I mentioned I use Mozilla on the Mac at work, which does what I need great, but if you don't want that whole suite, they broke off the Mail component into something called "Thunderbird". Unlike Mozilla, it hasn't reached 1.0 yet, so it might be buggy or something. But probably worth checking out while your shopping around. http://www.mozilla.org/projects/thunderbird/ now, gentlemen, is there going to be some of what humans call "UT2004 Retail" this weekend? Oh, yeah. |

All you bieeeoootches shall grovel from the muzzle-end of my longarm! Now that I have that comment out of the way, are there any last minute requests? In my cargo, there shall be 1 PC, 1 Monitor, and 3 folding chairs. These are not those cheap Chinese chairs that Big Whisky uses, but quality HONG KONG chairs! Er... wait a minute (shit! just broke another one!) Are there any requests for booze or other items? Nice article Jim. The author sums up many things I've seen from various reputable American, British, and Asian websites for the past two years. The ballcap covering was actually on Fox News three months ago. One thing the author didn't mention, due to post dates, was the fact that "The Passion" wasn't released in France due to the massive Anti-Semite shitstorm over there. No need for them to add fuel to the fire. Once again, my American heritage makes me proud. All of you should also know that I've just gotten a new job. I'll be working for a aerospace defense contractor here in Ol' Milwaukee designing and verifying avionics (that's also known as aircraft electronics) as a design engineer. I've had my eye set on this company for about 4 years now and I've finally gotten the opportunity to work for them. I've been pretty excited since Wednesday and I'm sure I'll have some great conversations this weekend. See everyone later! Folken |

Yo, Jim, if you want to get me a list, I can pick up the supplies necessary for this salad, if that is the deciding factor. For this meal, is there something you would like me to prepair? Perhaps my famous ghetto chicken? (a favorite of the man formerly known as DW) Or something of that nature. Guess what? I've got a date friday night, so I won't be right on time. I think we will hang in the downtown area, so I don't know how I will quite work it yet. I might drop the gear off, meet the gal, then return. (if parking could be secured for me by a Justin that would make my day) I will be there friday, and I will be no later than 9pm. I will be in dire need of food and shelter, though, but I will be brining some food, so all I will need is shelter. ;) (and the sweet sweet warmpth of the LAN) Will I need to bring anythinng like by shiny new gigabit switch? (since The Other Justin(tm) has 2 I don't think that will be necessary) I will also be getting some beer, so if you want some Milwaukee's Best or something [;)] Let me know... Ite. Later G's Whisky_B (mighty risky) |

Unless The Other Justin(tm) comes through with a master plan, I recommend picking up catering from Boston Market to supplement the Saturday meal. I now know of one that is fairly close by. ETAs? I'll be working in the Third Ward pretty much until I'm needed back at Landmark, but it's only like 5 minutes away. I would like to start gaming between 6 and 7, but if that causes a problem for those poor bastards that have to drive through Chicagoland, just name a preferable time and I can probably make adjustments. |

I would be happy to take some heat off of the hosts, if you catch my drift baby! I'm good, good, good (that's three kinds of good by the way) with semantics! So what else is hoppin? Some stuff? Good stuff? If one of the Justin's monitors will be free I would be happy to use it, but if someone else needs I can bring my clunker too. That will probably be a last minute decision. under the event page you'll find: http://www.pulgaritrap.com/spoolan/events/sched_313.html not that we'll actually follow it, but that's the general idea. Standard times, lotsa Unreal, lotsa Tequila. If we still want to do "Cold War TA" that'd be cool by me, we would probably just replace the Tribes time if no one wants to play that. I just have some silly Tribes custom maps on the way I want to show Jim, that's all I really want out of that. If we can get both the Matts on via WAN, then maybe we can play more. CrowScape, are you up for EXTREME! Caesar Salad MX 2004? I know I am! Also, shout out dibs on the spare monitors. I'm assuming CrowScape will use either Aphex or Intrigue's spare Athlon in its entirety, but that still leaves a 17" LCD, a nice 17" CRT, and a crappy 15" CRT for those bringing machines who might not want to haul a monitor. |

I lost the rum...but I won Placas's event, so that's pretty great. Ummm...whisky sours is pretty delicious? Well, that's all I got. What will be happining at the next event.
