In related news I saw my first PSP today on the train.

27 as it 27 years old today.

I've still just got the Spiderman 2 game for the DS that I got for christmas. I tried that Wario Ware game though and was unimpressed. The Big N isn't doing such a fine job of releasing titles for the device.

Oh, rumor has it Katamari Damashi will becoming out for it though. That, would be good.

DBBQC,
Thanks, i'd like to thank the academy, and the refresh button, and my parents...

ANYWAY...

What are you playing on the DS that is hot to trot? I really interested in that, only so that I can enjoy castlevania in the dark. ;) I want to know what's hot. Sorry...what's HOT! Get me in on it. Get me in the know.

Now what is this 27 laps around the sun business about?

Congrats B_W on your double post success!

Haha! 27 laps around the sun. Who says I'm outta shape! Didn't know I shared the day with Ewan McGregor and Joel Godard too. Knew about Christopher Walken. That's still my fave. ;)

Peter,
Perhaps you might not be able to enter the 'pulgari trap' in that contest, but perhaps you can enter something else using the footage. Perhaps a documentary, or mocumentary about the 'making of a star wars fan film', or cut the footage together in a way that is funny. Perhaps you could make something about the joys of rotoscoping, and use the footage as the basis. I don't know, perhaps I am just plain crazy, but I am sure there are countless ways you could use this as an opportunity to enter something that could in a backwards way promote the final product. It's just a thought...

In answer to Adam's question about justin's post:

Jon Thoms (scientist) said:
"This company has made a LED (light emitting diode) or
perhaps Laser LED using CMOS (*c*omplementary *m*etal *o*xide
*s*emiconductor) technology. CMOS chips are cheap to make, run at high frequencies,
and are very efficient relative to other semiconductor technologies. Previously, you
couldn't use CMOS because the voltage drop (same as the emitted photon
energy - color of the light) is determined by the choice of material
also the the change in "spin" has to be correct. Normally a laser LED is
made from Gallium Arsenide or other exotic semiconductors which means
you can't just "print" a LED on the surface of a silicon chip.
The implications of this new technology are that you could place a light
based communication between microchips or within
microchips. So eventually you might have fiber optics running along
side the wires on your computer's motherboard. One proposal to increase
the frequency of computer processors is to use light flashes as a clock
and have little light receivers all over the chip synchronize the different sections of
the chip to the clock. Light communication is superior
to electronic communication in circuit boards because wires cause
interference with each other (especially at high frequencies). At the
frequencies of modern computers the wires become very much like
antennas. Also light travels faster than an electric signal."

So metroid really isn't out for the Nintendo DS...interesting. They are advertising for it though. Even more interesting.

The PSP is hittin pretty hard though. Super hard. And long. It's pretty long. I don't know about strong though. However, you can play MP3s, have pictures and your very own video in it's original 16x9 greatness on it.

That's pretty special. Yep, that's the word I would have used. Special.

The handheld race is really heating up. That's good. No, that's really good. Good. Good for me.

From the demo Trimarq got, I didn't think the titler they packaged with MC Adrenaline was very "soft". In fact, it could do many of the things I've been using 3ds max/combustion/AE for. Maybe that was part of Boris? Anyway, I'm not sure what Pinnacle has that tops that. From the article, it sounds like they're going to push all the Pinnacle tech on the consumer market. MCA and up probably won't be affected at all.

You're probably just feeling that aging IV gear... ;)

Posted by: Big_Whisky Posted on: Tuesday March 22 2005 5:11pm
Really it's about time. Avid is soft in the character Gen side of things, and Pinnacle keeps the old chyron torch burning in it's title deko series. Sounds like a match made in heaven to me.

i'll set things in motion then for the 28th. And I hope to be down (way down in the Dark State) for that ACen shin-dig, lines and all.

Posted by: CrowScape Posted on: Monday March 21 2005 7:15pm
I always like the longer events, it justifys the expense of driving up in the Exploder, especially with gas prices now-a-days.

Also, ACen is May 13-15, so it may be good to space thos two events out a little bit :)
BTW: Who needs a place to crash for it?

Provided Amtrak still exists then, I may be out on vacation if the party is held on the 21st. The 28th works betta for me (I currently think). But that vacation is still up in the air right now anyway.

Posted by: nearscape Posted on: Monday March 21 2005 10:11am
ok, polling about the next gathering.....
We can do it Memorial Day (may 28) weekend as previously requested. This lets us run a little long, but we'd have to do it in the apartment.
Or, we could do it around May 21st, and use the party room. Personally, I like the room, but the LAN party scene has been pretty weak around here lately, so a longgger event does have its appeal.

Thoughts?

Also, what should we play? Franz was showing us this Battlefield 2 game, when does that come out? Pariah should be out, that much I know. There are some RTS games based on Warhammer and Lord of the Rings that might be cool. Whatever it is, I think we should pick a new retail game ahead of time that we can all get for the gathering to freshen things up. But mostly, I'm also ready to return to some Ass-Convoy glory! \/\/00T!

I, and my father for two, are truely looking forward to it.

Posted by: Big_Whisky Posted on: Saturday March 12 2005 5:54pm
Peter,
I was serious, I think you should dish out the dirt to attract interest in Pulgari.

Crow,
I like your dirt better. Now we're talkin!
I always liked my 'Jack Palance' solution, where Jack, who is the Uber-Jedi_Master/of/all/time ties up all the characters that make a future appearance, and horribly mutilates the characters that never get mentioned again. That way in IV, V, & VI all Lucas has to do, is edit in are crappy shots of Palance looking through windows and hatch bay doors & such, harshly at Obi-Wan and Vader when they should talk about material covered in I, II, & III.

Oh well. Guess all we can hope for now is Jim's solution. That doesn't explain why Vader is white...and British. You would think the dark side would have made him darker. Oh well, guess it's gonna suck...any way it plays.

Big_Whisky

Posted by: CrowScape Posted on: Friday March 11 2005 11:50pm
Guys, I just realized how Lucas is going to make amends for Episodes I and II. Get this: Anakin actually dies in Episode III. You get to watch for ten minutes as Hayden Christensen is flayed alive, while Ewoks dance around him in celebration. Of course, Obi-Wan and Yoda are completely out of the loop on this, still thinking that Anakin is going darkside. This leaves it wide open for the plot twist: Windu actually becomes Vader with only the Emporer's knowledge, and we find out he's been showing Padme his O-face. Luke and Leia, it turns out, simply inherited a recessive gene from Windu, making them appear white. Anakin, we latter learn, didn't have a penis.

So, whiny, annoying Jedi dies a horrifying death, but bad-ass motherf#ck'n Jedi lives on, gets some tail, and becomes even badder-ass. I'd call that a happy ending! Man, now I'm PSYCHED for Episode III! It's gonna be tits! And oh no, it's not gonna be PG-13, it's gonna be NC17 'cause of all that Hayden blood and hot black-on-white action.

Posted by: Peter Posted on: Friday March 11 2005 9:23pm
To quote Mark Hamill in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"...."Don't F#$% with a Jedi Master!"

Posted by: Whisk_e_Z_eze Posted on: Friday March 11 2005 12:30pm
'Nothing new' eh?

I haven't heard anything about it. (the PG-13eness) Probabily because I am mis-informed. I think Peter should share his knowlege about Episode III on pulgaritrap.com, in a special section. (called: 'rantings from a Lituanian Fan Boy', or 'Patar Ka, Patarshka' or something. That way he can display his fanboyness with the world, and keep everyone informed, while promoting his fan-fiction at the same time. He can kind of be, the 'starwars rumor mill resource', the best on the net!

WHADYA THINK?

I think im brillaint. But that's 'nothing new'. ;)

Big_Whisk_e_Z_eze

Posted by: Peter Posted on: Friday March 11 2005 11:23am
Careful, DBBC. You do not want to ire the Star Wars afficionados with an uncontrolled prequel harangue. As for the PG-13 rumors, they have been around since early 2003 when Lucas said that it will be practically impossible to keep this one under PG-13 (so this is nothing new).

Posted by: Dream BBQ Child Posted on: Friday March 11 2005 9:47am
Could it be true? PG-13 for Episode III?
www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/03/11/film.starwars.reut/index.html

I don't think that will help the hokeyness that has plagued the prequels thus far but, at least it sounds like Lucas may well have made the movie that Episode III needs to be. And I tell you what, for Star Wars theatrical swan song I would really like for it to be good. None of this "Clone army? What's that? Oh, but wait, that's what I'm here to see!" crap like in episode II.

The things that I am looking for most in the upcoming event this weekend are booze and friends... in that order. Drunken tank wars makes it all the better. I think I'll be picking up a couple of six-packs of 'Pshor, and if Justin can secure some of that unique brew from the local microery (I'll gladly chip in), I'll be quite happy indeed. Also, a Pizza of Death would be nice to obtain sometime.

Remember, I'll be rolling in fairly late this time around.

Oh, and Whisky-to-the-Z-Man, can I put in an order for a Ginned up Gin-themed DVD of your glorious media? I got a friend over at Loyola who'll be turning 21 soon, and I think he needs the guidance that only the true Whisky Zen Master can provide. I'll pay for shipping.

Greetings all,
Well, I never really anticipated this 'no pants weekend' being much of a LAN event. At this juncture I really don't have the resources to put one on, (table space, I don't want to take down my computer rig I just spent a week setting up, etc) so I will bill this event as

"Newer-Oldchool, No Pants, Large Amounts of TankWars, Maximum Gro"' weekend.

Meaning: Things available:
1. 1 seat of WOW
2. atari 2600 & 7800
3. Nintendo
4. 3d0
5. Wireless Worms
6. Grog
7. Tankwars

That should do it. If interest weighns, let me know.

However, apparently getting tickets online for such things is a process fraught with peril due to scams and scalpers (it's a rare event), so any of you that are physically in the area on a regular basis hear of anything promising (local box office sale, radio promos, whatever), please pass that info along. I'd really appreciate it, thanks.

Also Adam - resident Broadcasting Guy - did you once tell me that 102.1 is run by the same turds that own Lazer103, but now they're advertising "family owned and operated for XX years". What gives? 102.1 has not been sucking lately, they're mostly '90s alt/grunge now. They've mostly done away with the Linkin Parks, even the 80's Metallica and AC/DC is gone (and I can't say I miss it). I even heard some Depeche Mode, that was odd. But I'm liking it. Anywhere else I've driven in the midwest, it's essentially The One Rock Station, all the same 45 minute playlist. 102.1 is really starting to stand out.

thought I posted something last night, but apparently I was taking hallucinogens. Anyway, if you refresh the next 2 events are listed and stuff.

Anyway, in response to WhiskEZE, I very much enjoy Tribes:Vengeance and UTXMP between intense bouts of TankWars and GROG. So that's where you'll find me (unless someone comes up with something better). If both CrowScape and Irenicus are around, some old-skool TA may be called for. What say yall?

Oh, and speaking of yalls, DBBQC have you considered Hooligans fer yer neck-car Left Turn Watchin'? It's right there by you on north, is fairly unpretentious, gots them big-screen TVs, Pschorr on tap, and this burger with chorizo paste that will show you the future.
