Here's a question: How many of us own a DS? There are quite a few eight-player wi-fi games for the little hand-held, so if enough of us have them, it might be something to consider. Oh, and we definitely need four-player Wii action. I don't know if I can make it to the LAN though. I'm debating whether or not to get a paper done that weekend. |

GAMES! As I see it, here's what sucks. There won't be a UT2007, EPIC is too busy counting their Gears of War money. Team Fortress 2 and the other new Steam content is also delayed. The various flavors of Warcraft have proven too complicated to set up for casual play. I don't know how many people have computers strong enough to play many of the newest FPS games. Here's what's AWESOME. Supreme Commander. That's a must-have. I know Jon, Crow, and Intrigue know what I'm talking about. PREY is available on Steam for $20. I'm sure there's lots of other awesome, cheap shit on Steam. Tribes 2 is now FREE and runs on anything. Civ4 is great for passing all that time when B_W is ginned up and/or passed out. ;) Uh, other than that, what's going on? I don't know, I've been playing too much Wii R-TYPE and making CG dirigibles. |

This reminds me of a good Megatokyo strip which involves Akihabara, undergarments, and tangentally LAN activity all at once! http://www.megatokyo.com/index.php?strip_id=662 OK! For our LAN. Location is going to be tough. My preference would be Kruger's basement, IF his neighbors will be gone for the holiday. That would mean we can park many cars in the driveway, and be as loud as we want. When he gets back I'll talk to him about that. Also, I'll talk to Pip about using his kegerator, which would be 17 kinds of awesome, and ultimately cheaper than buying dozens of bottles of beer. Jon also offers his basement as a fallback, but there are various cons to that. I don't know if the Kump/Japs estates are an option. There's also "pay to play" options such as Bucketworks that may be worth discussing if we get a large number of committed participants (10 or more). |

Hell, if that's the trend from Japan, I gotta get on board! Now, are these new undergarments, or the used variety that one may find in a vending machine in Akihabara? |

Crow, Sorry, no dress, only undergarments. I hear that's what the majority of the WoW players who cross gender wear. That's just what I hear from the 'in game cross dressing' WoW players I know, and that's also the rumor going around Tokyo. Now on to the LAN. Memorial Day Weekend it is. Thurs eve - Monday I say. Now for the hard part: location. AC would be nice. Room enough for a small group 10-15max would also be good. Any ideas? David |

B_W: Or, perhaps when you play WoW you are playing a game. A roleplaying game! You know, like when play DOA, Metroid, or Resident Evil? Do you really think that people who assume the role of Samus Aran are part of a crossdressing homosexual subculture? That's fucked up! As for me, since WoW is 95 percent running and jumping, sometimes I'd rather look at a model of a skinny chick over a fat dude. That, and the extra gold from dancing tips is nice. :) |

As far as the gender bending WoW action, that story is probably a fake, but a man playing as a woman is nothing new. I know of a few myself. True some are homosexual, but others just like the attention you get taking the role of a woman in a game such as WoW. Some also like the idea of crossdressing, while other men feel like they really are women trapped in men's bodies and they treat the game as an outlet. Think of it as a 'virtual world 2.0', where subcultures can express themselves in a way the world will never see them. Happy WoWing! B_W |

First of all, it doesn't beg the question, as I am not using circular reasoning. It might raise the question though, except that you asked that question of me a few months ago when I first brought it up as a potential problem, and it was answered then. You are assuming that Discovery has the same standards for the spoofs as they do for the actual shows, which I think is an incorrect assumption. Mythbusters is a popular program and as such the producers/talent are probably given more leeway than some Joe Blow video editor who they've never heard of before. I do not recall any swearing in the first season of the show (but that could just be because I haven't watched a first season episode in a long while), but if they were, that would throw this theory out the window. And the best "Fuck You" you could give to Discovery is to post your video on YouTube and market it on the Discovery boards. |
|
| Posted by: B_W | Posted on: Wednesday March 21 2007 1:58pm |
|
You were really offended by that swearing I fully bleeped out, weren't you Jim? That beggs the question: HAVE YOU EVER FREAKING WATCHED THE SHOW?!?!?!? That's all they do is swear. F-Bombs, S-Bombs, the whole 9. It's all bleeped. I mean, it ain't Deadwood, but they swear more on that show than any other I watch on cable or network. And if that did trip their trigger... ...wait for it... FUCK THEM. How's that for some swearing? Hear that Discovery Channel? Betcha did. I made the most accurate depiction I could, and if it was too accurate for them, well, that's fine. I enjoyed making it, and I will savor it's sweet sensations till the end. D_R |

Hey, with the crap they selected, I could only assume that some kind of disqualification trigger was tripped. Perhaps it was the swearing in the glass ceiling myth? But yeah, YouTube it! Declare it as the fan submitted video Discovery wouldn't let you see, then we can spam Discovery's boards with it. |

*start sarcasm* Yes, Jim, I blatently broke the rules on the Discovery Channel content because I am a stupid man, I don't know how to submit content for contests; I am also a dullard and foolish. *end sarcasm* Lucky Jim, I don't know why it didn't get selected. I made a special for Discovery channel 9 minute version, it was pretty much the greatest piece of video ever created, and they didn't pick it. Well, guess that's the breaks. B_W p.s. Ass. |

Wow, he posts! Hi Peter. On the Michael Moore topic, you should have seen the late nineties at Madison. The guy was pretty much canonized in the student newspapers. Keep in mind this is pre-Farenheit, pre-Bowling for Columbine. I actually watched Farenheit 911, I have to say it was rather manipulative. Wildly subjective and insulting rhetoric like "he went to bed on sheets of fresh French linens" and the whole Rather-gate National Guard memo led anyone to question this man's motives. Of course, the timing of the whole theatrical release was more than obvious too. I couldn't help questioning the man's integrity when I watched that film. He is a pitbull polemic with a camera. Once again, a partisan pulling for the team (in this case, the Anti-Bush), just hoping his ideology runs this country. File his films under "partisan politics" instead of "Documentaries." Eric |

ok, so as part of a fireseed project i had to purchase a dx10 card known as the 8800GTX which has 128 streaming sub processors on its glorious die. i gave it a go around on the old wow, and its fast. i tried HL2 at full settings and its flawless. i tried oblivion by my ghost in the shell of a dvd drive wont work, and so no oblivion for me to max settings on, but i fear none the less that it will still be able to handle what ever i throw at it. why anyone would need an sli of this, well i am a little worried about that. in any case, i have a 7800GTX 512 MB PCIe of ram that i will auction on ebay next week unless someone wants to send me an offer. they seem to go for $250-$350 on ebay, but i like giving deals to friends, so let me know. jb, maybe you want to use this on the one at work and give nvidia gelato a shot? |

About the photoshoped mailboxes: Peter, Justin, please calm yourselves, for you see, you're both right. What they did was take a bunch of mailboxes, and 'photoshop' them ... in 'reality'. You see, instead of taking digital paint and stensils, they took real paint, and painted the mailboxes. See? That concept takes photoshop in 'real time' to a whole new level. As you can see, these guys are way on the bleeding edge. I'm gonna call it, "Reality 2.0". Yeah. So, boyz, put down your disagreements, and bask in the warm, illuminating glow of a brighter future! From the Associated Press: Filmakers question Michael Moore's tactics http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movies/03/13/film.manufacturing.dissent.ap/index.html It's taken filmakers this long to question him? I've been questioning his "documentary" techniques since I saw Bowling for Columbine. However, for those of you are fans of his, don't worry...I'll use Michael Moore's own tactic to make that headline sound more positive: Michael Moore questions filmaker's tactics. -html deleted- There...that's the way Michael Moore would do it...through the miracle of T-APE ED-IT-ING. |

| Kruger, you must have been playing that psychotropic nightmare known as the "Wii" too long, those are not all photoshopped mailboxes! To quote one of the mythblasters, "I think you've been smoking the wacky tabaccky". There are over 20 photos showing these mailboxes in what I perceive to be quite a masterful job of forgery if they are indeed photoshopped. Whether or not they are photoshopped as you claim (which I still highly doubt), USPS has already confirmed that this is what the promotional mailboxes will look like and roughly where they will be distributed. Given the fact that the USPS is actually doing this, why would anyone waste their time photoshopping that many mailboxes? If they were that good, shouldn't they have landed a job already instead of just making graphic pranks on TFN? | |

Since I know there are a few Takeshi Kitano fans who read the forum... Marquette University will be showing one of Takeshi Kitano's films as part of their Foreign Film Festival (March 26-28) in the Weasler Auditorium. Admission is FREE. Sponsored by the FOLA department. 8:30 Furyo (Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence): Japan 1983 Directed by: Nagisa Oshima Starring: David Bowie, Tom Conti, Ryuichi Sakamoto, & Takeshi Kitano In 1942, Jack Celliers, a British soldier, goes to a Japanese prison camp. The director of the camp, Yonoi, embodies a philosophy of firm discipline, honor, and glory. Out of this philosophy the allied prisoners become cowards in their choice to surrender rather than committing suicide. John Lawrence, a prisoner and interpreter, tries to explain this Japanese perspective, but in doing so faces the repercussions of being considered a traitor. An 80's movie starring Takeshi Kitano and David Bowie? It doesn't get much better than that! Unless, of course, you are talking about an 80's movie starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie... |
